With the Hunter Max thermostat, you can program all seven days of the week individually and set up to four programs for each day. That means not only can you set the air to turn off when you leave for the day, but you can also set it to turn on before you wake up and get out of your warm bed.

Many thermostats just kick the heat or air conditioning on to full speed, using more energy. The Hunter Max uses a smart recovery feature, which causes the HVAC unit to turn on and slowly adjust the temperature without overshooting the desired setting. This recovery feature also senses the amount of time it will take to reach the set temperature and will kick on so when you walk through the door, your home will feel comfortable.

Hunter makes its thermostats easy to set up, and programming it takes less than 10 minutes. There is an in-depth manual, plus the thermostat has a one-touch override feature so you can cancel any schedules if you are home.

Hunter has made quality improvements on its newer thermostats. They have improved the interface on the Max Programmable thermostats by adding a 9.7-inch touchscreen. Navigating the screen is easy too since the icons are large and simple to understand. The screen shows you the current temperature and what the target temperature is. The entire screen is backlit, so changing the schedule in the middle of the night won't be a problem.

Hunter embraces the do-it-yourself installation. Installing the thermostat takes less than five minutes, less than actually programming the device. It has a built-in level to keep things in line and is wired so you won't have to change the batteries.

This programmable thermostat's internal design works with dual stages of both heating and cooling. Having multiple stages means improved air filtration, quieter operation and more energy-efficient performance. While the thermostat itself doesn't have a humidity sensor, this thermostat is programmed to work with air systems that give you better quality when it comes to limiting the moisture in the air.

The Hunter Max thermostat tells you when it is time to change the air filter. It begins by informing you the filter is getting dirtier and progresses to informing you it is time to swap out filters. If you go into the menu, you can look to see if there are any other warnings such as an air conditioner or heater malfunction that requires the attention of a professional.

This particular thermostat lacks any Wi-Fi capabilities. This is only a slight setback though, because the thermostat's Energy Guide gives you instant savings feedback, even as you change the temperature. Also, if you simply want to circulate the air in your home, you can program the fan to run instead of the air conditioner.

Hunter only offers a one-year warranty on any of their products. This is the shortest warranty we have seen with programmable thermostats. They do make up for it with good product documentation. This electrical thermostat comes with its own manual, but the website has several other documents you can download in PDF form. There is an owner's manual, which is broken up into programming the device and installation. There is also a parts guide should you ever need any additional elements.

You can use the website to access the FAQs, register your device or access your account. The account is just simple shipping and billing information and order history.

It does lack a few extra features like built-in Wi-Fi and a mobile application, but these added benefits don't affect how well the thermostat works.
